Good living folks! This Saturday was a fun day. After going to the farmers market, getting yummies and hanging out with our friends at the Varri Green Farms tent we went to the ocean. We didn't get to surf today but got a nice walk and delicious swim in. Even Ocean, the baby, got to play in the water a bit! Next we were on our way to the cleanup.
With the help of friends a few weeks ago the Coastal Cleanup Crew got started. We started at Harbor Point, a beach on the river that gets a lot of garbage washing up on it. I noticed this once on a casual nature walk and in passing mentioned it to Andy who decided that this little cleanup dream should be a reality. At our first go four people (and one baby) went out and in one hour we collected 6 garbage bags, a styrofoam cooler, and a plastic cooler. This place was still not finished people! The next day we went out again and braved a lurking lightning storm, once again we collected 6 bags, but this time in just 30 minutes. Today, after using facebook as an advertiser we had 7 people picking up garbage with about 14 bags removed. Believe it or not, Harbor Point could still use some help. Every Saturday the Coastal Cleanup Crew will be picking beaches to send loving vibes to by simply cleaning the mess that wash upon their shores. So sweet! It is amazing being out there, and the inhabitants love it as well. Today a manatee swam right up to the shore and lingered near us for quite some time before floating on to new adventures. Last week it was dolphins. I feel this is their way of saying thanks for looking out. Perhaps this will inspire awareness in others to be mindful of where garbage ends up when it leaves your hands.
Tomorrow we will be spending the day at Varri Green Farm for the slow food dinner. This is a fantastic place to soak in nature and be around food as it grows from the earth to the table. Farmer Sal is hosting this event and we are going to volunteer and partake in the festivities. I will let you know how it goes! Peace. Love. Namaste.
